It's A Wonderful Life 75th Anniversary Song

CHARLESTON, SC - Songstresses Gracie & Lacy are getting ready to release a new song entitled "It's A Wonderful Life," in honor of the Frank Capra holiday film's 75th anniversary. Written by younger sister Lacy, fans of the movie will recognize quotes and references woven into the lyrics, while those unfamiliar with the Hollywood classic will be swept away by the catchy tune.

"It's A Wonderful Life," starring James Stewart, Donna Reed, and Lionel Barrymore, was released in 1946, however it was not a box office hit and did not gain popularity until after it slipped into the public domain. The story follows George Bailey (Stewart) who gives up his dreams of seeing the world to run the family business, The Bailey Building and Loan, in the little town of Bedford Falls. George finds himself facing prison when $8000 mysteriously goes missing. Though innocent, the stress brings George to the edge of a bridge, where he unexpectedly meets Clarance - an angel - who is sent to show him what life would be like if he had never been born. He realizes he truly does have a wonderful life, and the story climaxes with an outpouring of love from the community and all the glitter and warmth of Christmas time.

"We used to watch "It's A Wonderful Life" as a family every Christmas morning. It was my dad's favorite movie. I think he really identified with the character of George Bailey. My dad, who has since passed away, battled decades of depression - the movie addresses mental health with a powerful message of hope, and I think that really encouraged him." Songwriter Lacy says.

From the playful opening line, "Youth is wasted on all the wrong people," to George Bailey's offer to "lasso the moon" for his sweetheart, Mary Hatch, the lyrics express hopes, dreams and blessings in disguise. Just like the movie, the song also grants Clarence the angel his wings - because as George Bailey's daughter Zuzu teaches us, "every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings." The very singable, get-stuck-in-your-head blend of verse and tune is surprisingly a song for all seasons, and not just for the holidays.

For the studio recording, Gracie & Lacy have teamed up with producer Ariel Delgado who is known for his work on The Voice, The Disney Channel, and as an opening act on Paul McCarney's "Freshen Up" tour. The sisters have chosen the locally-owned Coast Records and engineer Matt Zutell to capture their tight harmony vocals. The song will be released on all major streaming and music purchasing platforms.

Set to release this December, the official launch of the song will be celebrated in Charleston, SC at a live Gracie & Lacy performance at Forte Jazz Lounge on Dec. 11th at 3pm & 7pm. In addition to the "It's A Wonderful Life" song, the show will feature classic holiday hits, tap dancing and a glittering array of costumes. Backed by the Forte Jazz Band, this show is for the whole family, and sure to fill you with the Christmas spirit and renewed hope that you truly do have a purpose and a wonderful life.
